The scene opens with the usual skyline shot of Las Vegas the shot that tourist would see which is pretty much the strip of Vegas and the casinos & hotels. Further off in the distance we see Mount Charleston something most people that visit Las Vegas wouldn’t otherwise notice. Yes Las Vegas is known as the city of sin but it has so much more to offer then that. Yes Vegas is a nice party city but it’s also a city you can grow in and live in as well but this is not why we are here we are here because the newest member of PWX Assassin is getting ready to make his debut with the company on there flag ship show Adrenaline which of course airs on Versus Assassin will be matched up with Caleb Houston & Hunter Jay as all three men will be looking to make a good first impression on the staff of PWX as well as the fans of this company as well
We see a few more shots of the city of Las Vegas before settling on a building called the Las Vegas Sports Park. Inside the building we see a large desk with several shops selling accessories such as skates sticks helmets and other things we also see a large ice rink and next to it we see a roller rink which is where we find Assassin as he comes skating up to a stop near the end of the rink
Assassin Welcome to Las Vegas my second home if you will. Now I know some of you probably were expecting to see me in a ring or something like that but that’s not the case here. You see you don’t spend as much time in wrestling as I have without learning to enjoy the simple things in life. Such as skating that is a simple thing a good simple thing.
Assassin But that’s not what you’re here for is it? No you’re here to find out more about the man and my thoughts on my debut for the company coming up in well twenty four hours or so. So let’s get started shall we. The most basic question seems to be how did I get into wrestling? Well the answer to that is simple really. I grew up in Texas the state that’s known for high school football and of course wrestling so I think you can see where I’m going here.
Assassin pauses as he rolls off the rink and rolls over to a bench as he begins to take the skates off his feet
Assassin Anyway I always had a love for wrestling especially the era and time I grew up you saw the best of the best in wrestling. I won’t name names cause that’s just going to take forever. And it’s not the real part of the story. I grew up loving wrestling but my heart was with football. I grew up around football and of course I saw the rise of the great Dallas Cowboys of the 1990’s. So football was my first calling and it was something I have myself up to one hundred percent.
Assassin having his shoes on his feet and his skates tied and hanging off his shoulder starts to walk around the outer part of the rink as the camera follows him
Assassin Basically the short version is I had a great run in football up to my junior year of school when I suffered a knee injury. By the time I was healed all my college offers were gone and no one wanted to even consider giving me an offer. So while I was rehabbing my knee I started following my best friend as he started getting into wrestling and I used there training to get my knee right. Once that was done and college was off the table I started training for wrestling and the rest as they say is history.
Assassin stops and sighs as he looks out the near by window staring at the outside world
Assassin Don’t get me wrong I still miss it. I can’t even go to a Friday night game because it just still stings too much. But I am where I should be I mean look at me I was built to be in wrestling and to say I have that throwback appeal would be correct. But that’s about it I have rounded myself and that’s what happens when you travel the world and spend time asking questions taking in all the information that someone will give you. Until finally they tell you to stop asking questions cause have nothing else to tell you.
Assassin Now the two guys I’m facing I have no idea about there background. Nor do I want to know anything about them. Because all I see when I see my opponent standing across from me is a road block. And that road block is to bigger and better things. Some people might take that as something to get mad about I personally don’t care. My only job when I get in that ring is to beat down the person standing in my way by any means necessary. It’s plain simple and to the point much like I am. PWX I am coming and I’m going to be your worst nightmare knifing my way through this company until I’ve hit the top and taken down the biggest there is. Beware of Assassin.

Sunday May 4th 2014
So, Blade Lopez had won. He got me to do something I swore I would never do again. Now I was going to be back under microscope. Working in a business I hated. Showing off for people I hated even more. What the fuck was I possibly thinking when I made that phone call? No one will ever know. I sat there on the back porch of my apartment building. The cool Boston air whipping against my face. I was wearing a pair of black sweatpants, and an old grey sweat shirt. To my left sat a bottle of Jack Daniels. My eyes were focused on the black sky out in front of me. I had my hands tucked into the pockets on the front of my sweatshirt. I pulled out two small pills from the pocket and popped them into my mouth. I washed them down with a large gulp of Jack Daniels.
‘Ahh…’
I exhaled deeply and I could feel the whiskey burning as it went down my throat. In a few short minutes I would be in my happy place. Sure, pills weren’t the first choice to get me there but there was no money to get what I needed so I had to resort to the next best thing. Somehow.. someway this was going to get me by. This was going to make me feel better. I could feel my eyes getting heavier as each second passed by. I brought the bottle back to my lips, and with one big gulp I finished the rest of the bottle. I held it upside down above my mouth for a few seconds letting the last few drops drip out into my mouth before I launched the bottle off the balcony.
‘Shut the fuck up…!’
I yelled to myself as I placed my hands over my ears. I pounded on my head a bit before my world started to slowly spin. Faster…. Faster…. Faster. My eyes rolled to the back of my head as my knees went weak. I feel face first onto the floor.
Somewhere Inside the mind of Caleb Houston…
I sat there in the stairwell of an older rundown building. My cell phone pressed up to my ear. I was in the middle of a conversation.
‘So far the card is going pretty good…. Yeah Julius is up in about twenty minutes… Of course he’s ready… Uh, some guy named Konway I think…’
It was tough to hear the voice on the other line as there was stomping and cheering echoing through tout the stairwell. Wasn’t it pretty obvious now where we were at? I looked down at my watch before quickly ending the conversation.
‘Well, hey I need to go finish getting Julius ready…. I’ll call you back after the match … Okay yeah… Alright I love you too.’
I said before I hung up the phone, and slid it back into the pocket of my jeans. I stood up and turned around heading out of the stairwell. I was much younger. I didn’t have nearly as many tattoos. My face was bright. I was happy. Little did I know tonight would be the last night I would ever experience happiness. I made my way down the hallway, and into the locker room where Julius was sitting. This man was my best friend. Someone I had grown up with. Someone who knew me more than I knew myself. He was sitting in front of a locker his head was down his ears covered by a pair of headphones. Music blaring out of them.
‘Julius…’
I called out as I walked over to him and pressed my hands on his shoulders. He removed the headphones from his ears and turned around. His eyes were bloodshot, and for a black man his face was extremely pale. I could tell he was nervous, but I didn’t think twice about it. He always got like this before his matches. He had a hard time dealing with anxiety. He wasn’t just doing this for himself. He was doing this for his fiancé and his unborn child back home.
‘What’s up Caleb? How is everything on the home front?’
He asked me as he stood up from the bench and tilted his head to each side cracking his neck some. He removed his sweatshirt. Beneath it he was wearing a black sleeveless t-shirt. He was much bigger than me. Veins were bulging out of his shoulders and neck before he sat down.
‘All is well homie.. don’t worry’
I said to him as I motioned for him to give me his hands. I reached down beside me and pulled out some pre-wrap as I began to wrap his hands. He turned them with me as I wrapped. Clenching his fingers here and there to make sure he maintained mobility.
‘You need to relax a bit … this guy isn’t as good as you man. Calm down’
I reassured him as I began to apply tape to his hands, and fingers. We continued in conversation as I wrapped up his hands. When I was finished I brought bout of my hands up in front of my chest. Julius took each of his fists and threw them at my hands. He then nodded his head in approval. We were then interrupted by a loud knock at the door. In walked a man dressed in a very nice business suit. His hair was slicked back.
‘You bring the gloves?’
I asked him. Each of these sanctioned events had gloves that needed to be inspected before they were given to the competitors to wear for the fight. His eyes were focused on Julius and I. He shook his head no before he slid his hands into this pockets.
‘I’m here to tell you there was a slight rule change… Julius won’t be needing any gloves tonight.’
‘What do you mean?’
Julius asked his voice cracking in shock a bit. The two of us looked at each other. I just nodded at him to reassure him everything was going to be okay. I then focused my attention back to Mr. Wan.
‘The boss has told me match is going to be a Taipei Death Match.’
When I heard those words I just closed my eyes. How could we be so stupid to think that everything was going to go as planned? We were just two stupid Americans coming over here to Japan. I knew that there would be some sort of bullshit we had to deal with, but I never thought it would be something like this. Without another word Mr. Wan turned around and exited the room. Julius immediately stood up, and threw his right hand into the metal locker next to him. I dropped my head and brought my thumbs up to my eyes. Gently rubbing them. I exhaled deeply before lifting my head, and standing up from my chair.
‘Relax bro.. don’t waste your energy now.’
I said to him. The color was now back in his face, and he looked angry. Angrier than I had ever seen him in my entire life. He was ready. Nothing was going to stop him from winning this match. He shook his head before he exited the locker room. I followed closely behind him. There were no more words to be said. Not now. We continued town the winding hallway. After what felt like three hours we finally entered the entrance area. To the right of the curtains was 2 jars. One filled with glue. The other filled with shards of glass.
‘This is bullshit..’
Julius said before being directed to dip his hands in the glue. He did so unwillingly. I stood there with my mouth shut. I had no words. He was then directed to drop his hands into the glass. When he did so you could hear the glass cracking as he rolled his fits around to make sure they were completely covered. He pulled his hands out of the glass. A few drops of blood running down his fingertips dropping onto the ground.
Fast Forward.
Above the cage hung a large digital display. Final round was displayed in red led lights. I was kneeling in front of Julius wiping his face with a towel that was red with blood. His face, and body were badly bruised, and cut up from the glass. He was breathing heavy, and my voice was strained, from yelling directions at him.
‘Last round Julius… you got rounds 1 and 2 in the bag. All you need to do is stay smart and finish this match. Don’t do anything stupid and you’ll take home the win... and the money.’
I said to him. His eyes were glassy and he squinted a bit trying to regain his focus. His chest was going up and down as he was gasping for air. I turned my attention over to the other corner. I could barely hear what Konways coach was yelling to him. The crowd was going nuts.
‘Close the distance.. finish him with those knees. He has no answer for them..’
I said to Julius before I was directed to leave the cage. I pushed the mouth piece back into Julius’ mouth before giving his face one last wipe with the towel. I grabbed the stool he was standing on and exited the cage. The door was shut and locked behind me. Both men stood in their respective corners eyes focused on one another. Both of them looked broken. Each of them breathing heavily. Konway looked a lot more beat up than Julius. The referee pointed at both men, each of them nodded they were ready.
‘FIGHT!..’
He yelled out as the two men approached each other. Konway tossing a few jabs out at Julius to keep the distance, but like I had said Julius closed the distance. He brought Konway into the clench and began to throw a few knees at his rib cage.
‘Yes.. keep them up he’s going down!’
I yelled out. He threw two more knees before he lost his grip and was pushed off. Backing up a few steps Julius regained his footing, but it was too late. Konway shot in on him and took him down with ease. Takedowns were always one of Julius biggest weaknesses as he had never really trained his wrestling skills. Mounting him Konway threw a few punches directly at his face. Each of them connecting flush. Julius focused his eyes on me one last time as Konway rolled him over onto his side, and threw one final devastating blow into his temple. I heard a large crack.
‘Noo…’
I screamed out as I brought my hands up to the side of my head. Gripping at my hair. I saw Julius twitch a few times before going limp. Konways eyes focusing right at me. The referee jumped up and called for the bell as doctors rushed into the ring. Smiling through the blood on his face Konway brought his right hand up to his neck and made a cutting gesture before exiting the ring. When the cage door open I rushed inside and pushed the doctors away. They were working on Julius doing all they could, but I knew it was too late. I looked around at the once rowdy crowd. Most of them looked shocked. A few of them crying.
Fast forward..
I sat there in the hospital. My once white t-shirt had blood splatters all over it. My phone kept ringing it was Leah. Each time she called I hit the ignore button. I didn’t know how to answer this phone call. I was staring at the black screen of my phone. Before I was brought back to reality by a doctor clearing his throat. I looked up at him. He closed his eyes, and shook his head. I raised my hand to stop him. He didn’t need to say it. I already knew what was coming.
=====================================================
To Whom It May Concern,
I never really thought into it too much, but now that I look back on my life. I attribute this to the start of my downfall. I mean who could blame me right? I witnessed my best friend take his last breaths. I can honestly say it was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever been through in my entire life. I know I didn’t handle it the right way. I left my girlfriend, and pretty much shut myself off from the world. I tried to stay strong for everyone the first few weeks, but in the end the sadness overtook me. I couldn’t function. Getting out of bed in the mornings felt like a chore. After three months of sitting in my apartment feeling sorry for myself I went out. That’s where I met my best friend. Drugs. It started with a little bit of weed at night just to help me fall asleep. Eventually that wasn’t enough anymore. I needed something to get me motivated to get out of bed. So I turned to cocaine. When I realized those two things weren’t helping me anymore. That’s when it got bad, real bad. I was introduced to heroin. When I met that bitch I was instantly hooked. By her warmth. How she always made me feel safe. But most of all I knew she would never leave me. And to this day she’s kept her promise. She’s always been there for me when I needed her. Unlike so many people who promised they would never leave, but they always found an out. Not her. No.. definitely not her.
You know. I was so ready to be done with this whole wrestling gig. I was comfortable where I was at. I didn’t need to put on this happy façade for the word. No, I had my boat and my crew, when they decided to show up. I could go out for days. The open water. I’ll tell you one thing. The world seems so small when standing on the edge of that boat nothing around you but clear skies. But then it changed. The fish stopped coming. The boat started breaking. And I could see my bank account getting lower, and lower, …. and lower. I was going to make it out of that rut. I always did. My back has been against the wall more times than not in my life. Like a pitbull I always stepped up. I always fought back. Enter Blade Lopez. A man I grew up watching in the cWF. A man I idolized from the time I was 10 years old. He told me he had an opportunity. My heart, and body both told me no. But my mind and bank account said different. Should I have made that phone call? Probably not. But I did. Will I regret it? More than likely. But I felt like I owed it to him to give this one last shot. He’s the one who got me into the business. He’s the one who gave me the EWA contract. We all know how that worked out. I worked my way through that whole roster. As a matter of fact my last match in that company was against their world heavyweight champion. It was a non-title match. And when everyone told me it couldn’t be done. When the whole world was telling me Keith Daniels was too strong for me. I proved them wrong. On that night in 2008 he felt the ‘Gold Rush’ and I got the victory. Hell of a way to end a career if you ask me.
There are things about the PWX that intrigue me. The possibility of working with a whole different group of people. Some of them I know. Some of them wish they didn’t know me. I know that for sure. Honestly, I guess what made me answer that phone call is simple. When I’m dead I want the world to remember me. In twenty years I want people to tell stories to their kids about the night they saw Caleb Houston do this, or do that. But most of all. I want people to tell the world they were there when Caleb Houston became the champion. I’ve wrestled the biggest names in this business. I’ve beat them. But professionally I’ve never held the gold. You didn’t think I would just leave without being a champion at least once. Did you?
The hunt for the gold for me starts this Wednesday night at Adrenaline. In a triple threat match against two other newcomers to the PWX. Hunter Jay and Assassin. Neither of them are familiar names to me. But that doesn’t matter. I will treat them just like everyone else.
Let’s start with you Hunter Jay. I’ve done a little bit of reading up on you these past few nights. I wanted to know who I was stepping into the ring against, and it was interesting what I heard. You’re young. Very young for this business. Matter of fact I think I was you age when I started wrestling. When I was 21 my head was much too big for this industry. In my first match I bit of something a little more than I could chew. It didn’t go to well. Well, kid, you’re up against the same fate. You’re stepping into the ring against ‘The Gold Standard’ Caleb Houston. Sure, I may not have lost a step or two in my time off. But one thing I learned in this business is you can’t beat someone who doesn’t care what happens to them. It’s almost impossible to beat a man who has nothing else to live for. Can you push yourself to the brink of exhaustion? And when you there can you dig a little deeper for that last shot of energy to get the victory? Honestly, I don’t think you can. I think you’re just some young kid who got a couple lucky shots in on a street fight and that got you a contract. What happened to the last guy, Kimbo Slice, who got a few lucky punches against lesser talent? His career ended before it even started. For your sake. And the sake of all the fans who will be watching Wednesday night I hope you’re a little bit better than him. Hell, for me I hope that you have more talent than that guy. I don’t need my welcome back match to be a squash. I need something to tune me up for the higher competition. I need something to get me ready for the PWX World Heavyweight Championship.
I’ve seen you’ve lost a lot in your life. Parents. Girlfriend. Kid. Well, unfortunately the days of you suffering lost aren’t over. No, not quite yet. Cause Wednesday night I will put you to the test. Your body will be broken. Your will tested. And just like everyone else before you. You will see firsthand what the gold rush is all about. They will all fall, Hunter. But you will be the first.
Finally, we move onto Assassin. I’ll give you credit. At least you had the decency to show your face. Granted most of it was endless rambling, but that’s okay. If I knew Caleb Houston was coming for me I would be scared too. Please though. Tell me more about your football career. I thoroughly enjoyed it. You seemed very successfully. Fuck man. You might have been able to become the next JeMarcus Russell or something. You would’ve made a lot more money sitting the bench in the NFL than you will getting buried in the wrestling ring. Before I fell asleep I caught one thing. A knee injury. More specifically a knee injury that ended your career. Are you sure that’s something you want to do? Did you really mean to tell me, the master at exploiting weakness, one of your biggest downfalls? Picture me as a roadblock all you want. But I’m one roadblock you won’t be able to get around. Break me down. Please. I plan to put an end to all your goals and dreams. Judging by what I’ve seen that won’t be too hard.
I can’t feel my face,
Caleb Houston
