“Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment, full effort is full victory.” As Nighthawk lies down on the mat inside one of the rings at the Wrestle Factory, having just finished a grueling conditioning session in advance of Bad Company’s 2-out-of-3 falls match against Mascara Muerto, one has to wonder if the Chicago native is truly prepared for the desperation that he will feel when he, along with his tag team partner Jason Aries, stand across the ring from a team hungry beyond words to keep themselves in the title picture and understanding intimately that another loss will remove them from that chance.
But while everyone involved clearly seems to know just how important this match is one can’t help but feel as though Nighthawk is completely at peace with the knowledge that he will have to prepare as hard as he perhaps ever has in order to ensure that Bad Company can defeat a team as polished, and as talented, as Mascara Muerto. Despite the apparent serenity that he is bringing into his latest challenge one has to wonder if he has truly contemplated, or for that matter can even bring himself to understand, the level of white-hot hunger of his opponents for this week and what they might very well be willing to do in order to ensure that the “Wrestling Machine” and Jason Aries do not come out with the win that they need to in order to end the series and make themselves top contenders for the PWX World Tag Team Titles.
But as the “Man of 1000 Holds” continues to lie down on the mat, taking deep gulps of air as he does so, the door to the gym slowly yawns open and appearing, as if in some sort of a dream, is his close long-time friend and his fellow trainer at the Wrestle Factory, Santos. Walking with a pronounced limp and using a stainless-steel cane, as his body clearly is beginning to show signs of the mysterious illness that forced him to retire from an active wrestling career, Santos nonetheless walks to a desk chair and rolls on it until he is right next to his close friend and peer.
(Author’s Note: This conversation took place in Spanish.)
Santos: “I must admit, I'm happy to see you like this. I always remember what it was like to watch you when you were trying to get something that you wanted, and more importantly, something that other people told you that you didn’t deserve to have. I'm getting the sense, just by how you’ve been acting and how you’ve been training since they announced this #1 contenders series, that someone, somewhere, in PWX upper management told you that this was something you couldn’t win. And while I am going to enjoy, tremendously, watching you do all that you can to prove those doubters wrong I do have to wonder if you aren’t pushing yourself too hard in order to win. I mean, if you do win this, what prevents Vox Populi from making the match for the very next week? They’ll know you and Jason will be exhausted, and battered, after facing a team as good as Mascara Muerto two weeks in a row. They’ll also know what being 1\2 of the tag team champions will mean to you. Just keep that in mind. Try to leave a little bit in the tank if you can.”
Nighthawk, gasping for breath as he slowly pulls himself up into a Hindu squat as he continues to train while talking to his friend: “I can’t, Santos. I didn’t get everything I've gotten in my career by saying ‘I'll just save a little bit in the tank’. I have to push myself to the max, to know that I've done everything I absolutely can to win. I don’t want to not be ready for these guys, because when I was in the ring with them the last time, I felt how good they were, how cohesive they are. And Jason and I have to be ready for that, have to think one step ahead of them, and training as hard as this, and maybe even harder, is the best way that I can think of to make sure that happens. After I'm done here, I'm going to get in my car and see Jason. We’re going to talk about our strategies so that we can come up with a game plan for beating Mascara Muerto again. That’s what I'm doing. But to be perfectly honest, Santos, I could use some help from my toughest opponent, the best trainer I've ever seen, and one of my closest friends.”
Santos, smiling despite the amount of pain he’s in: “Of course, Tristan. I'll get some food out of the car and we’ll get to work.”
The next morning…..
As Nighthawk packs his gear up in his car, taking special care to mark the bag with his ring gear as separate from the bag that contains his clothes for publicity appearances and the like while in Crown Point, he slowly closes his eyes. Clad in a white #27 Jose Abreu Chicago White Sox jersey, dark-red leather pants with dual Irish and Cuban flags taking up space down each leg, and black work boots, the “Wrestling Machine” slowly opens his eyes and closes his trunk before leaning against it.
Nighthawk: “I take pride in all of my achievements, all of the things that I have done before I got to PWX and since I have been here. But the thing that I am the proudest of is that, no matter where my boots have found a home, I am a self-made man. I'm not here because of my name, or because I look really nice on the promotional poster. I got here, and accomplished everything I have not just here but in promotions around the world, because I am willing to work harder, and longer, than any of my opponents. And this week, when we face Mascara Muerto in a 2-out-of-3 falls match, Jason Aries and I will outwork them. We will show them that while they might have held the titles already, we are the best team in this company. And we’re going to prove it.
Now I know what you’re thinking, gentlemen. You’re probably real frustrated over what happened last week, and if I were in your shoes, I'd be really frustrated as well. You had Jason and I on the ropes, and before you even knew what was happening, the Pressure Drop happens and you’ve lost. But here’s the thing you’re missing by requesting a 2-out-of-3 falls match. They’re a different world, a whole different strategy than anything that you’re used to. See, when I was learning how to wrestle, my trainers explained to me that 2-out-of-3 falls matches were how champions were crowned. And much like any of the other matches that fall under the ‘stipulation’ nomenclature, there are very specific and time-honored strategies for how it is that you are supposed to wrestle matches of this type. Let me let you in on a little secret: The men who taught me the finer points of these strategies are, regretfully, long gone. There is no way that you will be able to learn what they know, because those memories are now ghosts. And that fact, painful as it might be for me to admit, leaves you forced to admit another one: We’re better than you. I know it hurts to hear it, but it’s true. And this week, we prove it.
Great champions, men of honor and pride, always seek out the toughest challenges they can find. Both of us have done that here. But this week, it ends. This week, we beat you. And this week, you learn the lesson we’ve taught so many before: You don’t piss in the wind, you don’t spit on Superman’s cape, and you don’t mess with Bad Company.
Goodnight. May sleep give you the courage to go on.”

The Masks Warm Up
As the scene fades in we see a makeshift ring set up in some unknown small recreational facility where our two masked crusaders and former PWX Tag Team Champions are taking some time off from the grueling world of online video games and couch potatoing for some relaxing warm up sparring in preparation for their Two out of three falls match against Bad Company where a loss here will put them out of the title picture if but temporarily seeing as they can still cash in their rematch clause whenever they want to but for the time being have relented from doing so. Given recent events they need this little warm up time to shake their minds off of their recent loss to Bad Company and a previous loss that was brought about by interference from the Vox Populi a team they are no stranger too since beating them several months back in addition to Bad Company to capture the Tag Titles before losing to them at the following Pay Per View. Norte and Muerto are eager to get in the ring and become the number one contenders and become Two Time PWX Tag Team Champions but one has to wonder what is going on under those masks. As a team whose private lives are unknown and are rarely seen at shows unless it is for a match there is much to wonder about what is going on with the dynamic duo. While it is true they have always seen themselves as wrestlers and not entertainers in the sense that week in and week out they must go out and cut some kind of promo or fun activity, they do try to have fun and live normal lives off the camera. A luxury most superstars can't afford or simple don't care for since being known around the world and on the street is welcomed by some for others it is something they do not wish for.
As Norte and Muerto circle each other in the ring, the building largely empty except for the two of them as Norte goes for a lockup before turning it into a side headlock and bringing Muerto over into the take down. Both men getting back to their feet where Muerto retaliates with a Standing Dropkick to the mask of Norte who rolls through it to run at Muerto and duck under a high kick, heading for the ropes where he jumps to the middle rope and rebounds back in a Moonsault over the head of Muerto who ducks and fires off a backwards kick which is caught by Norte who throws the leg to his side spinning Muerto just enough to close the gap and hit a Flip-over DDT. Norte gets back to his feet and makes his way to the heavens ascending a nearby turnbuckle turning his back to Muerto as he executes a top rope Moonsault only to meet with the mat as Muerto rolls out of the way and quickly finds his feet, running to the ropes and rebounding to hit a Scissors Kick on Norte as he tried to get up. Muerto takes a moment to pose and ready himself for more but Norte waves it off as he is helped back to his feet as both men slap shoulders before exiting the ring.
Norte: Well done amigo, I think that is enough warming up for now, now we rest and prepare ourselves for our impending match with Bad Company. If we don't win this match then we are out of the title picture, for now at least. I can only wonder if Vox will some how affect the outcome of this match, I wouldn't be surprised with all that they have been doing lately since winning the titles from us. Regardless of who wins this series I am confident that the Vox's reign will be brought to an end and the titles can be freed from the grasp of the Establishment so that the Tag Division can become what it once was if not greater than before, of that I am sure. What do you think?"
As the pair walk over to a nearby bench to take a seat and rest Norte looks to the Mask of Zero Words for his response only to be met with the usual silence one would expect to 'hear' from him yet as always it seems Norte was the only one who understood what he said and nods in agreement to whatever unspoken words were spoken. As of late it has seemed to the two that PWX has been going in every which way in regards to everything going on both on screen and off. On one hand you have the Establishment which is trying to crush ever last bit of resistance to the way they run things and then you have all the others that are trying to move up the ladder and win titles which in some way brings them across the path of the Establishment who always wants all the gold to solidify their hold over PWX. The Masked Duo had previously tried to stay out of the conflict but were more or less dragged into it with everyone else when their number one contenders for their titles at the time Vox Populi aligned themselves with the Establishment and made a point of sending a message to Mascara Muerto which was received loud and clear and their response while not as loud was just as clear, they want nothing to do with how the Establishment runs PWX.
Norte: Things sure have gotten out of hand lately, almost makes you wonder what is going to happen next. You have Troy Stone who is a face now, Schmied the monster of Zion and Hollywood has gone even more insane and turned on Hollywood, Stryker is back and that's only going to lead to more chaos no offense to him. It's getting to the point you can't tell who is what anymore. I'm even starting to wonder about Bad Company, I mean I see Jason has always insulted and bad mouthed everyone and now it seems Nighthawk is starting to act differently. Was it just me or did he start sounding a little like Elijah near the end of his speech? I don't know it seems all this craziness if affecting everyone, if things don't find some level of normalcy soon I have no idea what is going to happen to this place. Hopefully when we win this best of three series and go on to defeat the Vox will things start to return to normal, but I'm starting to doubt it. This level of uncertainty and chaos you think would perfect timing for that one guy we know to come back here, than again do we really want someone like him lurking around the shadows of this place? Probably not.
When the Masked Duo first found themselves walking into PWX things weren't as bad then as they were now at least that's how it seems to them. When they started here they were just there for the tournament to crown new PWX Tag Team Champions and managed to surprise everyone in PWX by knocking off the Knockout Kings in the first round before going on to win the titles in the triple match with the Vox and Bad Company. Even with all of their accomplishments which for a rookie team coming out of nowhere to go undefeated and capture the titles beating out all the other veteran teams, that seems like a pretty big accomplishment but sadly they still face doubts from those around them who think they are either fluke champions or just got lucky and aren't that much of a threat. But it is something they are used to and have come to expect it from their opponents and their peers, it serves as determination for them to prove that they can beat people's expectations and rise above the doubt to do great things. So the next logical step for that is to win the best of three series and go on to recapture the titles from the Vox and in the process become Two time Tag Team Champions and once again show all of PWX just how good they really are.
Norte: If we are to help return things to normal around here we have to start by winning this series, which means back to warming up! For the time being we are cutting out video games and couch time so we can fully prepare for this match! Lucky for us it is a match type we are already used to despite what Nighthawk thinks and we know just what to do to ensure a victory in such an environment. All those years in the minor leagues will pay off for us once more as we go out and give it our all and show that we will be the tag team champions again and sooner than anyone might expect! Now come on Muerto, we've got to work on making your kicks even more deadly and effective!
The two bring themselves back to their feet before a brief stretch and then off into the ring they go as they prepare for another round of preparation for what will be a grueling match but an important one for them and everyone involved. Only time will tell though just who will emerge the victor and who will eventually go on to face the Vox for the coveted titles.

The scene opens up as we see Jason standing in the back of the arena as he is watching the ring crew set up the ring he slowly turns as he notices the camera. The expression on his face shows a man who no longer wants to stand in front of a camera and talk. He takes a few moments and looks away from the camera as it just begins to watch him. He then locks his eyes with the camera and without missing a step begins to speak.
“You know it seems like week after week I stand in front of this camera and even after I prove everything I say I am stuck saying the same exact thing. The establishment does not want Bad Company anywhere close to the tag team titles because we stand for pro wrestling. The problem is that the team they put in front of us has all but disappeared. I would have thought this would be a well fought out series but they have just run away. I believe the establishment now know at the end of the day those titles are going to be coming to Night Hawk and myself. I am getting pure enjoyment out of watching the both of them as they see their plan fail right in front of them.”
The camera catches his eyes as there seems to be a fire like never before as he just glares in to the camera yet not saying a word. He then looks away from the camera for a few moments as he seems to be trying to compose himself. The camera watches as the thoughts seem to be racing through his mind as he tries to calm down. He takes a few moments and then takes a slow deep breath as he lets it out he once again does not miss a step.
“I wonder when the both of them took this place over if they ever thought it would get to the point where half of the talent does not even want to be here. I mean there is a handful of us that if it was not for our contracts that we would walk out the door. I look at winning the tag team titles as a way to finally put the nail in the coffin of these two. I am not sure if it will work though because at the end of the day these two are like a epidemic. The cancer known as the establishment has been running through this company and leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. Bad Company is going to be the surgeons that once and for all cure Pro Wrestling X of its illness.”
The intensity in his eyes seems to be growing with every passing second he becomes more and more pissed off as he just glares at the camera. He once again looks away from the camera turning his back a bit as he tries and tries not to explode. He once again seems to be collecting his thoughts as he slowly turns back around looking in to the camera. He seems to be ready as his eyes lock with the lens he does not miss a step as he continues.
“Two out of Three falls a match that not only tests the physical body but the mind as well do these two have what it takes to go that far? I mean look what happened last week they were completely and utterly embarrassed and now they want to try again. I look at this series and to be honest the entire world knows it is going to be nothing more than a clean sweep. Night Hawk and myself have proven ourselves to be one of the best teams in the world. The both of us have had enough though because we should have been champions months ago. The next step will be taken in to our ultimate destiny as we finally have our validation of being world tag team champions.”
He looks down at the floor of the arena as we hear the sounds of the ring finally being finished as he looks up watching the camera just watches him. He seems to be at home in this place as it was a place he has always wanted to be. He seems to be collecting his thoughts as he watches on an intense calm expression slowly comes across his face. He finally turns his attention back to the camera as he does his eyes seem to be able to burn a hole through the lens.
“The entire world is about the see the Bad Company era begin so for those who love professional wrestling just sit back and relax we are here. The establishment is about to be brought to it’s knees for the last and final time.”
The scene fades as he calmly walks away.
